At 8:30PM October 20, 1999 MSO New Orleans received a report from the La Place Sand Company that the Dredge ALBATROSS had partially sank and released approximately 400 gallons of diesel into the Mississippi River at Mile Marker 137.4. The cause of the sinking remains unknown. The responsible party did not initiate sufficient pollution response and MSO New Orleans opened a Federal project. Rubark Environmental was contracted to contain and cleanup the product. Further investigation on October 21 revealed that approximately 1000 gallons of diesel had escaped. Minimal impact has been reported on the shoreline. CASE CLOSED.
